Dear Friends,

This month sees a combination of Celebration and farewells. Starting with the farewells, locally we say goodbye to Revd. Keith Bamford, Minister at Matlock Methodist and United Reformed Church, who is retiring. Keith has been a good friend to both churches and in his time both Matlock Bank and Tansley have launched Messy Church as a joint ecumenical initiative. On Saturday 14th at 3.30pm, Derby Diocese will be bidding farewell to Bishop Alastair who is retiring after 13 years in office. We are invited to Derby Cathedral for a service to give thanks for his ministry amongst us. In the meantime, the Vacancy in See Committee continues its work of identifying Bishop Alastair’s successor.

So much for farewells. The month begins on the 4th at 7.30pm with a Triple Celebration at All Saints’. That evening, Bishop Jan will be visiting the parish for the first time in order to celebrate the silver anniversary of her Ordination to the Diaconate. It will also be the silver anniversary of my Priesting and we were both ordained at the same service in Lichfield Cathedral, so it seemed a good opportunity for us to celebrate together. In addition, there are 6 candidates from Matlock Bank and Tansley who are to be confirmed as part of that celebration. An exciting and joyful time for our churches which I hope you will come along and share. We will be appealing for refreshments nearer the time and sign up sheets will be at the front of church.

Thanksgivings and farewells; joys and sorrows. It puts me in mind of the lovely hymn based on Psalm 34:

Through all the changing scenes of life,

in trouble and in joy,

the praises of my God shall still

my heart and tongue employ.

O make but trial of his love:

experience will decide

how blest are they, and only they,

who in his truth confide.

Scripture points us to the nature and character of our God, revealed supremely in the incarnate Lord Jesus Christ. God is the Faithful One; the One whom we can trust and the One who loves His creation so much that He was prepared to go to the cross for us. To God be the glory and honour now and throughout all ages.

Every blessing

Richard

The future direction of All Saints’

Please prioritise the meeting in the Hall on Saturday 7th July, 10.30am till 1.00pm, when we will be joined by the Diocesan Missioner, Rev. Jason Kennedy to review what we have been doing as a church over the last 3 – 4 years, and to begin the process of discerning the way forward and priorities for All Saints’ over the next few years.

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

In order to comply with the new General Data Protection Regulations, could everyone fill in one of the GDPR sheets available at the back of church & return it to Richard, Anne or one of the Wardens, please. This enables you to let the church know how we may contact you and how we store and account for data processing.

USPG Sponsored Walk

Remember the Team walking from Derby Cathedral to Matlock on the 23rd April? Well, the money raised has been sent off and amounted to an amazing £2151.47, comprising (All Saints’) £1590; (School Easter Service Collections) £92.67; (Online) £210; (Tansley) £258.80. USPG tell us that over the 5 years that we’ve been strolling up the Derwent valley, a total of £8306.43 has been raised for the mission agency; making a difference to communities across the world. Many thanks to all who sponsored us – we look forward to next year’s walk on 29th April.
